Well I found a $400 project car I don't have the money for now, but I do have 159 Hot Wheels at a dollar a piece. Would of been close.

No you don't. In fact, you need to increase your purchases. Just like a cup of coffee in the morning, a day isn't complete without at least one new Hot Wheels.
Nevermind that the stores in my area haven't restocked in months and I'm going through this massive withdrawal right now, you gotta keep buying.

Huh...nice find with the F-150. I've yet to see the HW City - HW Graffiti F-150 (which that one is) in green in stores yet.
All the ones I see are in the blue paint.

I know but I think I have to make a choice between these and energy drink and a project car. Decisions.

I know what you mean, but at this point, you're probably safe. It's when you start forking over 500 bucks for a Hot Wheels anniversary set for your birthday that the expenses start building up fast...

I picked up a Gallardo Superleggera and the E30 M3 while waiting for the lady friend to finish shopping. Everyone wins.

D'oh my bad, I meant Birthday... A tiny brainfart made me link anniversary to aniversário, the portuguese word for Bday.
Even if I were married, getting a 500 bucks set for Anniversary would be crazy. The fact that I got it for my Brithday instead probably speaks a lot about why I'm not married. Or have a girlfriend.

I own one of those Torinos, they are awesome! I need to find a Lotus. I buy myself two cars every two weeks or so as a reward for making it two weeks further through my high school swim season (I get rather depressed over the 5 months of twice a day swim practices)

I haven't been hunting at all in the past few weeks, since I've been saving all my extra money for Christmas shopping. I'm pretty sure it's slowly killing me. Maybe I'll hit a few stores this weekend and give myself a $10 budget. My problem is that I'll spend $10+ in one store then go to 2 or 3 more and do basically the same. The collector cars like the Cool Classics and Retro Entertainments are what end up killing me.

True, I love those, but they're even more expensive here... 20 bucks for Cool Classics, 25 for Retro. I'm picking up the Cool Classics, as I'm a sucker for plastic wheel and anniversary series, but I'm not really paying attention to the Retro Entertainment.

The Hot Ones and Flying Colors can rack up a bill in a hurry too. With the Retro Entertainment, I've only been getting the movies I like and ignoring the ones I don't. The cars themselves are very nice though, like the Rockford Files Firebird and the Miami Vice Ferraris. And I agree on the plastic wheels. Real Riders have always seemed a bit too Johnny Lightning for my tastes. Those prices are insane though.
Right now I just want to find the Honda Civic EF. I need to grab a bunch. 1 to keep carded, one to open, one or two for custmizing, and two for my friends/coworkers who have both owned the same one.

To quote those stupid google ads about abs, I actually have a weird tip on how to cut back on diecast purchases and feed one's OCD at the same time; Pick a favorite model and only stick to models that scale and compare adequately to that "guide model". For example, mine are the 68 Nova, the 70 Chevelle, the Ford Thunderbolt, among others, so there are several compact cars that I avoid because they're too large, and several large that I avoid because they're too small.
The downside is that there are a lot of cool cars that end up staying out of my collection due to size and finishing issues.

Well I generally only collect muscle cars, with the occasional 510, 2002, 2000GT, etc., and TV and move cars like the Batmobiles and Mystery Machine and stuff like that. I also grab Treasure Hunts whenever I see them, but I very very rarely buy Hot wheels original designs or any supercars. My problem is that I usually like to get 2 of each car, one to keep carded and one to open.

That's a good focus, Hot Wheels makes a lot of awesome Muscle Cars, so they're very good to collect. My focus is mostly Mainline level cars of all kinds and shapes, as long as they're not too overdecorated or too off scale. In the end, I mostly collect mainline and intermediate level Hot Wheels, regular and Superfast/Lesney Matchbox and regular Tomicas.
I don't collect fantasy cars either, save for a few rare exceptions, like when Hot Wheels actually built the car in real life, or when the car is close enough to something that would exist, without the exaggerated proportions and stuff. For example:
The Loop Coupe is not based on any real model, but two life sized ones were built for Hot Wheels Double Loop Stunt
While the Team Hot Wheels Buggy was used on the Corkscrew Jump Stunt.
The Fangula, on the other hand, was never a real car, but it would feel right at home next to Big Daddy Roth's show cars, so I have one, in black. But other than cars like these, I stay far away from the imagination stuff.

I like some of the more realistic fantasy cars too, like Muscle Tone and Blvd Bruiser.
The off scale cars are a pet peve of mine. I love the P911 and the 92 Mustang, but the scale is so off. The 930 and Turbo Mustang, on the other hand, are perfect. The AE86 is also too big.
And I'll collect the occasional Matchbox too, but the quality has been questionable lately. They're nothing like what I grew up with.

A single Hot Wheels only amounts to upsizing your coffee from small to large..
